Kriss' focus areas

One in seven Australians experience anxiety in any given year, making it one of the most common mental health challenges in the country.

Experiencing anxiety can be the result of different environmental and social factors, which are explored in sessions.

Kriss utilises strong evidence-based solutions to address anxiety, which is addressed on an individual basis utilising skills from a range of modalities which might include CBT, ACT or schema focused therapy.

Depression impacts countless lives in Australia and can affect people of all walks of life. According to the Australian Bureau of Statistics, approximately one in seven Australians experience depression in their lifetime.

Depression is a complex condition with various contributing factors, including genetic predisposition, brain chemistry, life experiences, and ongoing stressors.

Kriss focuses on the proactive steps which mitigate depression’s impact – in therapy and through lifestyle changes – which can alleviate symptoms and can bolster mental resilience.

Couples therapy serves as an important resource for fostering healthier relationships and resolving conflicts.

Research indicates that around 20% of Australian couples experience relationship distress, with communication issues, adapting to parenting and differing priorities often cited as common challenges.

Couples therapy offers hope, with studies suggesting that up to 70% of couples who undergo therapy report significant improvements in their relationship satisfaction. Gottman therapy is steeped in decades of research, which is the primary model used in therapy at Kriss Balodis Counselling.

Men’s mental health is a pressing issue in Australia, often characterised in silence and stigma.

Whilst it can be challenging for many men to talk, evidence shows that doing so has a significant positive impact on their well-being.

Unfortunately around one in eight men will experience depression in their lifetime, with men accounting for approximately three-quarters of deaths by suicide in the country. Factors such as reluctance to seek help, and a lack of awareness of mental health resources contribute to this trend.

An experienced counsellor, Kriss provides men a safe and open place to chat.

Parenting children and teenagers in Australia involves navigating a complex landscape which is deemed by societal norms, technological advancements, and diverse cultural influences.

Therapy can play a crucial role in providing support and guidance to parents facing a range of challenges. Family therapy can provide strategies for effective communication, conflict resolution and strengthening relationships.

Starting from the view that the parent is the expert in their family, Kriss helps parents navigate complexities holistically utilising a systems, cognitive, behavioural approach in helping the development of children and teenagers.

“Kriss was so amazing and made me feel so comfortable…a very safe place for me to share my thoughts and feelings. Probably one of the best I’ve spoken with”
