How do I get subsidised therapy sessions?

Under Medicare, all Australians are eligible for 10 subsidised sessions with a therapist per year.

Visit your GP before booking a session with Kriss to request a Mental Health Care Plan to receive your first six, subsidised sessions under the plan.

Some private health insurers subsidise part of the cost of a session based on the type of individual cover. Please check with your health insurer prior to the session to find out if you fit in this category.

What should i do before my first session?

Beyond consulting and getting a Mental Health Care Plan with your GP, there is not much else to do prior to the first session. Kriss will guide you through the process throughout the first and subsequent sessions.

When & how do I pay for a session?

Payment is due at the end of the session. You can pay by direct debit into the business bank account.

How do i prepare for a telehealth or phone session?

It is the clients responsibility to ensure they have a secure internet connection and that they find a safe and private location for either an online or phone session. If another person is present for a phone session, please inform the counsellor at the commencement of the session.

How long do sessions go for?

Individual and family related sessions will go for up to 1 hour long, whereas couples sessions go up to 90 minutes long.

How do i make a booking?

You can book in for an initial 15 minute assessment prior to booking online via the link below

what kind of therapeutic techniques are used in therapy?

Kriss uses a range of different modalities including, Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), Schema Focused Therapy, Solution-Focused Therapy, Multisystemic Therapy (family therapy), systems and trauma informed therapy, and Gottman Therapy (for couples).

Do I need a referral to see an accredited mental health social worker?

No, you do not need a referral to see an accredited mental health social worker. However, if you would like a rebate, you will need an appointment with your GP to obtain a Mental Health Care Plan.

Do you work with children?

I currently see clients 16 years and over. If parents require help with challenges related to their children, whether it be a parenting specific or a family dynamic challenge, parents are encouraged to book in for a session to gain the guidance they require.
